One of Route 66's historic alignments west from Albuquerque followed the Rio Grande (River) south to Isleta and then turned west at that point. Amtrak's eastbound Southwest Limited approches Isleta on the former Santa Fe's original passenger main line via Albuquerque, Raton Pass and Dodge City KS.
