Railfanning West Chicago IL 3-15-09
West Chicago has always been an attractive place to watch and photograph trains. The busy, triple-tracked Union Pacific Geneva Subdivision intersects the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern mainline here, at "JB" Tower, still manned 24 hours a day by EJ&E operators. Even in this challenging economy, and despite my arriving on a Sunday morning, West Chicago did not disappoint, providing a steady stream of trains on both roads right up through the cloudless day's last light. The recent addition of CN's through trains operating over the EJ&E just made it better. On this particular visit, I photographed 16 UP freight trains, six separate movements on the EJ&E (involving 4 different carriers), and several (although not all) Metra commuter trains. I certainly found it to be an enjoyable place to expend a roll of Fuji Velvia film! I've posted the results here to share with all.
